Weekly Photo Challenge (Family)

With people posting such wonderful and heartwarming images of relatives, critters and connections I thought I should post a photo of mannequins who’ve moved to the darker side.

Frightening in the extreme I assure you there two are not related by blood to Yours Truly. This brother and sister combo can stay put in Taihape’s main street where I came across them on a recent road trip.

Weekly Photo Challenge (Window)

On a road trip for one on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island a couple of years ago I stayed, quite by chance, in Rimu, one of  Hydrangea Cottages Punakaiki (photos 8, 14 and 15).

These Nikau Palms were the panoramic view from my lavatory window. What a lucky girl.

I am thrilled to see the cottages get a well deserved superb rating on trip advisor and I shall return for the Pancake Rocks, the Hydrangea Cottages and the views from all the windows.

Travel Theme (Winter)

Concluding my Soho centric quartet is a light switch. A gigantic plug and socket, specifically designed for turning on Christmas lights. Smiles.

Winter, in this corner of the northern hemisphere, involves much of darkness. Christmas illuminations a welcome relief.

Great news for those up this side of the world is that days are getting longer now.

Weekly Photo Challenge (One)

This one beautiful orange Vespa was parked by itself in a Soho street outside The Sun and Thirteen Cantons, a pub I spent many many hours in back in the day.

My first job in the UK was in the building next door.

Weekly Photo Challenge (Community)

I thought immediately of the photo I took at the Getty Museum, LA back in October. These foreign school children and their teachers/parents toured the architectural delights on offer in time with us. We met them regularly.

They spoke no English but took loads of photos, just like me.

Travel Theme (Symbol)

Although the Barbican in the City of London had her opening ceremony in 1982 it is arguably the symbol of Brutalist architecture in our fair metropolis and was planned way back in the swinging 60’s.

Designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon she is loved (Grade II listed) and reviled (voted London’s worst building, 2003) in equal measure and is certainly an, in your face, experience worthy of investigation and, dare I say, a visit.

I love it (says the child of the 60’s) and would enjoy inhabiting a pied a terre there. Oh, the views from tower apartments.

The following photos were taken on a chill but clear Autumn day back in November.

Weekly Photo Challenge (Unexpected)

Earlier this year I spent a goodly number of my Saturday mornings awaiting Daughter #1’s arrival at Heathrow’s Terminal 5, the British Airways hub.

Over the months the advertisements changed, some plain dull, some rather good, some wonderful.

This Burberry offering is my favourite not least because orange is my favourite colour but because Romeo Beckham just looks so cute and happy.

I took many photos attempting to get one without passing pedestrians.

The unexpected is that I love this one because of the intruder. A BA pilot no less.
